Kingdom warfare (B)
This week we look at how the Bible says to resist Satan
Let’s first watch the teaching video Unit 4, from 14:20 minute.
In the video the teacher uses the word “rhema”. The Greek word rhema is the spoken word. The Greek word Logos is the written word.
Let’s watch the video.
There are several reasons why we don’t need to be afraid for the battle against Satan.
The Bible says in 1 John 3:8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.
Question 1
What is one of the main reasons that God sent His Son?
Jesus says in John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
Question 2
What is the devil’s work?
The apostle John also said in 1 John 4:4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
Question 3
Who is the one who is in you?
Question 4
Who is the one who is in the world?

Notice, what happened when Jesus died on the cross of Calvary and resurrected from the dead.Question 5
Was that a defeat or a victory? And why?
In Colossians 2:13-15 we read 13 When you were
REVEAL ANSWER in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you REVEAL ANSWER with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.Question 6
What happened legally at the cross? Who is represented by “the powers and authorities”?
Question 7
Is this most important event in human history offering justification to the believer? What is the difference between justification and sactification?
The cross breaks the power of our fear of death.
Notice what Hebrews 2:14-15 says about that 14 Since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity so that by his death He might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil — 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.
Question 8
Try to explain the connection between Jesus becoming a “flesh and blood” human being and breaking Satan’s “power of death”. How did this work? Does this free us from slavery?
Ephesians 4:26-27 says *26 Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold. *
Question 9
What do we do with anger and why?
God is a God of love, peace and truth. Satan hates that; he wants us to live in sin and slavery. Therefore, Jesus taught His disciples in John 8:31-32 31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Question 10
Explain how these things, Jesus said to do, can work in our personal lives.
James has a radical statement for us in James 4:7-8 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Question 11
When is the devil afraid for us and why?
Our battle against Satan is victorious when we put on the armor of God

Ephesians 6:11-13 exclaims 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
Question 12
Where are these parts of the armor for or point to?
Belt of truth (14)
Breastplate of righteousness (14)
Sandals (15)
Shield of faith (16)
Helmet of salvation (17)
Sword of the Spirit (17)
Question 13
What should we, soldiers in the army of the Lord pray for (verses 18-20)?
Difference between defeated and destroyed
Jesus defeated Satan’s power by dying on the cross for the remission of all our sins. When Jesus resurrected from the dead on the third day, He defeated and dethroned Satan, the
‘king’ of death in the kingdom of darkness. We can say that Satan lost his destructive power but was not yet destroyed completely.
In the Revelation of Jesus, we read about the future.
At Jesus’ second advent to earth (Revelation 1:7) and the beginning of His Millennial Kingdom, Satan will be thrown in a bottomless pit - the Abyss - and be bound for a 1,000 years (Revelation 20:1-3).
In the Judgment of Satan at the end of Jesus’ Millennial Kingdom is prophesied that Satan will finally be thrown in the lake of fire and destroyed (Revelation 20:10). After that, the redeemed will enter eternity.
Summary
We have seen different areas in which God has provided victory over Satan. We never have to fear him. He was defeated by Christ on the cross. His only power comes when we choose to sin. But Christ’s blood cleanses us from sin (1 John 1:9), and then we are again protected. Let’s keep alert in prayer and guard our behavior and our lives will grow stronger and wiser!
